When pressed, the lenses flip out from their closed, 360-format position into a parallel position next to each other so that you can capture 3D 180-degree content. At the top of the grip on the other side – underneath your index finger – is a button that releases the two lenses. On top of this base is what is effectively a cage that holds the two lenses. On the side are the power and WiFi buttons. The base of the camera is a sturdy grip with a shutter button on the front underneath where your thumb rests. Like the original Vuze, the Vuze XR offers superb build quality in one of the more unique designs I’ve seen from a 360 camera. There’s a microSD card slot compatible with both UHS I and UHS III cards, WiFi compatibility, a USB Type C port for charging the camera and a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope for motion tracking. The Vuze XR is also able to live stream footage to your social media channels of choice via its companion app.Īudio is recorded via four MEMS 48KHz microphones, and it uses the Ambarella H2 video processor.Īs for stills, the Vuze XR captures 18-megapixel images and employs dual 12-megapixel Sony sensors with accompanying f/2.4 210⁰ fisheye lenses. Note that if you’re not seeing the 4K 60fps option in your Vuze XR, that’s because it was added as a firmware update in January 2019. The Vuze XR can record video in 5.7K resolution at 30fps in both 360 and VR180 formats, as well as 4K 60fps and 30fps. It’s worth noting that VR cameras often offer one of these modes: the Vuze XR allows you to shoot in both thanks to a clever lens design. What sets the Vuze XR apart from other 360 cameras, though, is that it can shoot still images and video in both 360-degree format or stereoscopic VR180. It follows the Vuze, which was launched in 2017. The video has a wide angle fish eye effect and there’s a face tracking option available too.The Vuze XR is the second 360 camera from HumanEyes Technologies. The quality of the webcam footage is fairly decent and certainly a lot better than most built in webcams. You can choose to use either lens as the webcam or use both at once for conferencing. You’ll find the Insta360 X3 become a camera option when using any of the popular video calling apps like Zoom or Skype. When selected the camera will restart when you plug it into a laptop/desktop. Once you’ve updated the firmware you’ll notice the webcam option appear in the camera options. Last but not least this firmware update finally brings the promised webcam feature to the Insta360 X3. This makes the X3 a pretty powerful 360 photography camera, certainly good enough for lower end virtual tours or for those who need sharp 360 photos for professional purposes. The downside of using Pureshot mode is that the resolution was limited to just 18MP, but with this new update you can get the Max 72MP resolution too.

Insta360 also has a “Pureshot” mode which shoots DNG RAW images and automatically enhances them, significantly boosting overall image quality. One of the headline features of the Insta360 X3 is that it can shoot 72MP 360 photos, a big boost from the previous camera. You can’t yet use the popular “Shotlab” or other AI features available in the app but these could be made available in a future update. This way of editing only works when using the keyframes, viewfinder or deep-track functions on the App. Now you can get these videos at the higher quality the Desktop Studio allows for. You can also now use the “Viewfinder” editing function on your phone, which is where you physically move your phone to reframe your videos.

Videos exported using a phone won’t look as good as those exported on a laptop/desktop, the desktop studio also allows you to upscale your videos to 4K and up the bitrate to boost quality. The first and probably most interesting of these is the ability to reframe your 360 videos on the App and then export using the Desktop Studio.Įditing your Insta360 videos on the phone can be more user friendly but the exporting options are limited. There are 3 big new features being added to the Insta360 ecosystem.
